Grass Man International

An experimental collaboration between nature, art, and community

Grass Man International is an experimental and collaborative body of work that stretches across diverse locations, participants and audiences. Part sculpture, part performance, it explores how communities can reconnect with their environment through creativity and collective making.

Living, Growing, Creating

At the heart of the project are living costumes grown from real grasses, flora and flowers that continue to live as they are worn. Each piece forms a unique relationship between the wearer and the natural world, merging art, ecology and performance into one living form. With a touch of the absurd and hints of mysticism, Grass Man International invites communities to build, grow and participate in a project that enshrines the core values of environmental awareness, collaboration and modern myth-making.

A Global Community

Each Grass Man is unique, shaped by local ecology, community imagination and cultural identity. The project provides living costume kits that can be grown anywhere in the world using local plants. Communities cultivate, design and perform their own interpretations, resulting in a living archive of nature and culture expressed through performance. A costume grown in South America will differ entirely from one in Northern Europe, yet both tell stories about people, place and the planet.

Collaboration and Partnership

Unseen Between works with artists, horticulturalists, technologists and scientists to develop sustainable, inclusive and educational approaches to living art. We are seeking partners, funders and community organisations to collaborate on the next stage of Grass Man International, supporting local engagement, creative exchange and global dialogue through nature-based art.
