We Build Here

We Build Here is a living, modular structure created collaboratively by communities and festival audiences. Its form emerges through process, play, and participation — there is no fixed blueprint. Over multiple events, participants shape the structure, creating a space to stage artistic happenings, gather in contemplation, or simply experience the environment in new ways.

The project is currently in development and will be our largest spectacle yet, combining large-scale costume performers, live music, and interactive audience engagement. Each build is enriched by contributions from local communities, including woven panels that adorn the structure, ensuring every participant’s hand is visible in the final piece.

We are seeking collaborators and festival partners to support the development and construction of the modular structure. This includes helping with initial architectural tests, exploring how the system functions in different contexts, and running weaving workshops that produce the decorative panels. We Build Here empowers participants with a tangible sense of achievement, fosters connection across generations and skills, and revitalises traditional weaving practices through contemporary application.

The structure itself becomes both an artwork and a platform for further creative happenings, adapting to each festival or community site it visits. With its modular design and reusable fittings, the project is intended to tour festivals and events, growing and evolving with each new location. Communities leave a lasting imprint, while participants gain skills in collaborative building and weaving, contributing to a network of people engaged in an ongoing, transformative creative process. We invite festivals, community groups, and collaborators to join us in bringing this living artwork to life — through hosting, supporting, or participating in workshops and builds, helping to make We Build Here a truly immersive and collective experience.
